In 2014, a photo surfaced of a young Nhra drag racer being dragged out of a car in a hospital by the tailpipe.
She was found with a deep gash to her head and was diagnosed with a broken neck.
In the photos, the driver is seen dragging her out, and a woman behind him can be seen dragging the woman’s head as well.
In 2016, a woman who was dragged out in a drag race in Canada was found to have been sexually assaulted.
“I was really surprised to hear of this and I was really angry, because I thought we should have seen this coming,” said Tania B. of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
B. said she’s concerned about the lack of attention given to these incidents.
“What can we do about this, and what can we be doing to make sure this doesn’t happen again?”
B. and her group are working with Ontario’s minister of human resources, social development and recreation, Kathleen Wynne, and other government officials to identify and intervene when incidents like these occur.
The group also hopes that legislation will be passed to allow people to sue if they are harmed in drag racing.
They also want to see the issue addressed by the courts.
A woman in drag A few years ago, a young woman was found beaten and stripped naked in a car by another drag racer, in front of hundreds of people.
The woman was taken to hospital and had a fractured skull.
She had been stripped naked, with a man behind her in a black car.
The man was heard yelling, “You’re a disgrace, you’re a slut!”
The woman’s injuries were so severe that she required surgery, but she was released the next day.
The car was later found parked outside a bar, with the hood rolled up, and it’s unclear if it was damaged.
“The people that know these drivers, they don’t want to come out and let these drivers know that there’s going to be people that are going to try and get into drag racing,” said B. “If you see them, don’t be afraid to step up and intervene.”
B. also said she is worried that if people are too scared to step in, that the women and children in drag could get hurt in the process.
“It’s really concerning to me that people don’t know that this kind of thing happens and we’re still seeing it happening,” she said.
“This is something that needs to be addressed by all of us.”
Tania says that her group is working to get the word out about the dangers of drag racing and the people that support it, but says she’s hopeful the issue will be addressed soon.
“We’ve heard from so many people that have seen these women being hurt in drag,” she says.
“Hopefully we can start a conversation about it, and we can get this issue put on the back burner until we can move forward.”
